Resonant Water Drums

Steel, Water

4' tall

Resonance is what gives rise to pitch - it is the tension of a guitar string, the length of a trumpet's tube, and in this case, the amount of metal allowed to vibrate.

The viewer approaches to push, hit, and scratch at two large metal cylinders. Filled with water, these drums execute erratic circular movements. As the viewers play, the water sloshes from side to side and alters the pitch of the resulting sounds.
